Proposal-popping trends for 2014

The perfect proposal

While finding the perfect ring to propose with can be an exhaustive search, what really seems to confuse many is the actual proposal itself.

In our last blog we discussed the top engagement ring trends for 2014 and how they are influencing the decision making process for many soon to be married couples. In this blog post, we decided to further explore the area of wedding trends by listing some of the most popular trends when it comes to actually popping the question!

The Flash Mob Proposal

With social media’s inroads into almost every aspect of our lives, it’s also no surprise that proposals are no longer entirely private moments. Thanks to social media, we have seen a rise in the popularity of flash mobs to declare something worth telling the public, and it seems it has made its way into the wedding world. Over-the-top proposals are very trendy, and flash mobs are no exception!  If your partner isn’t the easily embarrassed type, this could be a great way to express the depth of your love for her/him.

Stage your mob proposal in a bustling public place, such as a park or shopping area or even at a sporting game.   Just remember to think about the logistics behind such an event. Organising that many people in an already crowded place can get quit tricky. You can either use your friends to stage the event or speak to the professionals. Your local dance studio could be the perfect option as they would have a group of professional dancers who are trained and specialised to help you get your message across loud and clear!

Record the Moment

With cameras now on every phone, it’s not surprising that the moment he or she pops the question will be recorded for years to come. Couples want to document their favourite moments to relive in them in the future with friends and family; this is now easier than ever with the advent of social media and built in camera phones.

If you’re going to document the moment, then why not choose a place that is as beautiful as the moment? Which brings us to our next proposal-popping trend…

Destination Proposals

Destination proposal have and continue to be a popular choice when it comes to asking your loved one their hand in marriage. While the destination proposal will certainly take some planning (and a decent sized bank account) the following destinations are a great way to ask that special someone to spend the rest of their life with you. Some popular proposal-popping destinations include:

  • Venice, Italy
  • Verona, Italy
  • Paris, France
  • Agra, India
  • Hawaii
  • Rockefeller Center, New York City
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Grand Canyon, AZ
  • Aspen, CO
  • Disney World, FL

Low-key proposal

Conversely, asking for someone’s hand in marriage doesn’t always have to come with all the bells and whistles—some couples prefer a low-key approach.  In the past couple of years, we’ve seen an increase in couples skipping some of traditional aspects of weddings and opting for authentic and meaningful proposals instead. This trend is expected to increase, with the rise in small, private, and meaningful engagements expected in 2014.
