Finding out your partners ring size can be difficult to do without giving the surprise away.
A couple of handy tricks when considering your partners ring size…
Finding the perfect design for your engagement can be a challenge in itself, but we often forget about sizing the ring. Below are a couple of useful things to keep in mind when trying to determine your partners ring size.
Our dominant hands (writing hand) tend to be slightly bigger, so if your partner is left handed consider that when sizing.
The most popular women’s ring sizes is 6 to 6.5.
If your comparing rings for size, try to find a ring with the same width as the engagement ring you’ve picked out, wider rings have a tighter fit than thinner bands.
Steal an old ring for measurement…
Get sneaky and have a look through the jewellery box for some old rings, make sure they’re not too old though. You don’t want to pick a ring out that doesn’t fit any more! And make sure you don’t get caught, and if you do then have an excuse ready to go because it might seem a bit strange to find you rooting through her jewellery box. Also try to find one that she wears on a similarly sized finger, it’s no good bringing in a ring that she wears on her thumb or pinkie.
Bring a friend of theirs with you…
Asking your partners friend to come along for sizing is great idea, especially if their hand is similar, even if it isn’t they will still have good knowledge on the size of their friends finger. If your lucky you’ll find a friend who already knows their their ring size! Plus, it’s also always a good idea to bring a friend of theirs along to help pick out an ideal design.
Convince her it’s for someone else…
If you think you can get away with it, try to convince them that their finger is the same size as someone else you could be buying it for. That way you can get her ring size with her thinking she’s just helping you buy a present for someone else. This one’s a bit tricky but if you think you can pull it off then she will still be surprised when the time comes.
Get really stealth…
It’s time to pull out your James Bond skills with this one, and if you get caught in the process then you’ll need a very convincing excuse. For those of you who have partners that are heavy sleepers, consider measuring their finger while they are sleeping. This is a pretty risky method and isn’t always the best way to determine the measurement, but if your out of ideas this could be a good way to get a general measurement.
Here at Arman’s Fine Jewellery in Sydney we will help you in each stage of your engagement process, after you have picked the ring and determined the size, we can help design or select the perfect engagement ring to share with your partner.
